David Byrne, Grado 17/07/2009

Anyone remember the Talking Heads? Remember their lead singer from New York, 60 year-old David Byrne? Well, who would have thought that he`d be singing in the quanti seaside resort known as Grado, not too far away from Trieste!

There were less than 1,000 people on hand for the man all clad in white, mostly folks well into their 50s for Byrne`s show. Quite something to witness up close someone who`s worked with the likes of record producer Brian Eno (they began working together way back in 1981 on the album “My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts”). Some may recall that Eno`s also worked with some pretty big “heavyweights” of international music, such as U2 on their “Zooeuropa” album (not to mention also the their “Achtung Baby” album), Roxy Music and David Bowie.

Byrne`s Grado show, which was brought to us again by the folks over at www.azalea.it (and this the VERY day after the Madonna cyclone hit Udine, some 40 kms from Grado!), was particular in the sense that Byrne was also joined on stage by a few dancers who did a wee bit of parading about. His repertoire also included a few songs from the glorious past of the Talking Heads, such as “Take Me To The River” and everyone`s favourite (at least for those who were there), “Burning Down The House”. A nice little concert for a gorgeous seaside setting such as Grado (which, by the way, by 88 year-old dad used to frequent with his family when he was a child). All pics by M. Rimati.
